jadebeallI stumbled onto this BBC story entitled Are women’s bodies still beautiful after pregnancy? only to find a bigger, deeper, more beautiful project behind it.

Photographer Jade Beall is using her own body and her camera to tell the story of beautiful bodies every where. True tales of how we live in our bodies from motherhood, to illness, to size and gender. See more and pre-order her book on her site.

When I was younger I used to converse with a SK women about 8 years older then me, at the time she was 33. I remember distinctly how beautiful she was. Her hair was black as night, her face lines clearly displaying her beautiful Asian heritage. That, on top of what was already a great sense of humor and healthy, open mind…all say for one thing. As an eager to please young man, I was quite enamored, I probably still would be, even now with her being at least 40. Though, even with her striking looks she would continually belittle her self because of the scars of her pregnancy. I would argue with her about appearance and what it means to be truly beautiful, that it is the mind and the spirit which are longest lasting and most prized by those clever enough to realize it. Never the less, she would insist I simply did not understand and while to degree she was right, I did not understand at the time the full scope of things, I was no less correct.

Say sompthin.
